Sligachan Hotel - 2.5 miles - The hotel is a meeting place for mountaineers, walkers and lovers of wild Highland scenery, it has a fascinating history which is described in the unique climbing and mountaineering museum exhibited within the hotel.

The Black Cuillin - 2.5 miles - The Cuillin is a Mecca for rock climbers and mountain walkers. There are a number of highly experienced climbing guides available to safely and securely take you up peaks like Sgurr Alasdair and Sgurr nan Gillean to name but two. As alternatives you can have a 7 mile hike to the spectacular Loch Coruisk, an 8 mile walk through to Camusunary or perhaps a 2 mile walk to the magical Fairy Pools or the challenging climb up the Red Cuillin of Marsco, all of which provide you with fascinating fauna and wildlife as well as awe inspiring views.

Braes - Across the Loch from Sconser - The historical Battle of the Braes was fought in 1882 between local crofting families and 60 policemen (50 of whom where from Glasgow). The dispute was over the Clearances and grazing rights. This was the last battle fought on British soil. This battle, and other incidents on the island, led to the setting up of a Royal Commission and to the Crofters' Holding Act of 1886.

Talisker Distillery - 10 miles from Sconser - The only distillery on Skye, this famous malt is produced by the shores of Loch Harport. Tour guides take you through the fascinating process and provide you with a welcome sample.

Town Centre of Portree - 11 miles from Sconser. The picturesque town of Portree offers you a feast of hotels and restaurants as well as a selection of quality shops to browse through. The Aros Centre offers you a cinema, restaurant, children's play areas and shopping experience along with a forest walk maze to explore.

Loch Aluinn is centrally located so is ideal for visiting all parts of Skye such as Dunvegan Castle & Gardens, 25 miles to the north, and the Clan Donald Centre, 30 miles to the south.
